"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.."
- Proverbs 3:5-6
NEW HERE? WHAT TO EXPECT...
Are you thinking of visiting Church on the Rock? If so, we hope the following information will give you a better idea of what to expect. We understand that visiting a new church can be intimidating, so we will do our best to help you feel comfortable and at home.
“What are the people like?”
At Church on the Rock, you’ll find a bunch of normal (well, at least we think we are!) people who know an awesome God that loves to do amazing things in and through them!
Are we perfect (or better yet, do we think we’re perfect?). No. So don’t think you need to “clean-up” or “get your act together” before you come to church. God doesn’t ask you too, so we won’t either.
In fact, if you stick around for a while, you’ll probably discover most of us are still in need of a little more “cleaning-up” ourselves. Growing and maturing as a Christian is not something that happens overnight. It’s a process that happens as we connect with God and with other believers. Being the "Church” of Jesus is really about loving God and loving people.
“What should I wear?”
This one is easy to answer: you should wear the white and gold dress (or is it blue and black?!). OK, but seriously, you don’t need to worry about dressing up to come here. Most people are dressed pretty casually (jeans, tennis shoes, etc.). But if you like to dress up, that’s cool too.
“What’s the service like?”
We typically start off the service with a time of “worship or praise” where we sing a mix of songs led by our worship team. More than just being a time to sing nice songs, this time is really about taking the opportunity to praise God for who He is, thank Him for all his blessings and enter into his presence together.
The worship time is generally followed by a time of preaching or teaching from the word of God - the Bible. We believe the word of God should be given a place of high value in our lives, not just on Sunday but throughout the week.
Usually, as we close our service we will have a time of prayer where you can respond to what God is doing in the service (through His word and the Holy Spirit). You can also receive prayer for any needs you might be having. During this time you’re free to either stay and worship some more, get some prayer or pick up your kids and enjoy the rest of your day.
“Do you have a nursery or kid’s church?”
We believe that God has a special purpose and plan for each child at COTR. We have several age-appropriate classes that will help your children grow in their relationship with Jesus and each other. Our mission is to "inspire kids to be world changers as they grow in their faith, passion, and purpose in Christ."
All children must be "checked-in" to attend our kids classes during the Sunday Service. Please visit our check in counter to check your child in. To learn more about kids ministry at COTR or what to expect when you visit, please visit our Kids Ministry page.
